DIY Lemon Fresh Deodorant
As a great supporter of natural living, I’m so careful with what I apply to my body. It’s tough to achieve, but our bodies absorb almost 60% of the ingredients that we apply to our skin. We assume that our skin is this unpenetrated wall of protection but, in fact, it’s letting in most of what we put on!
Because the skin absorbs so much and because I don't desire any more toxic ingredients ruining my body, I decided to utilize more natural products. Deodorant is one of the indispensable products. In the beginning, I tried many natural store-bought deodorants. They worked just fine, but they weren’t that amazing for me and they were usually costly.
One day, I realized that I can make my very own deodorant! It’s startling the various products that we can really make on our own! Homemade deodorant is very easy to make and it's quite cheap. As a bonus, you may already find all the ingredients needed in your home!
Lemon Fresh Deodorant
Ingredients:
- 2 Tbs. GMO-free cornstarch (or arrowroot)
- 4 Tbs. extra virgin coconut oil
- 5-10 drops of lemon essential oil
- 2 Tbs. baking soda
Directions:
- In a small bowl, combine the baking soda with arrowroot. Pour lemon essential oil and the coconut oil on the resulting mixture. Mix very well with a spoon. Put the mixture into an old jar or deodorant container. Keep in the refrigerator to harden for 30 minutes.
- Use as you would normally use your regular deodorant. I discovered that light strokes work best as the coconut oil warm up with your body temperature.
Tip: Store the homemade deodorant in a cool place if it's summer time or you live in a warm area. Because coconut oil melts at degrees higher than 76, it can leak out of your homemade deodorant tub.
Nothing to worry about if you are storing it in a jar.
